Thigh and Calf Augmentation
Introduction
In certain muscular disorders, with ageing and in some cases naturally, there is a deficiency of muscle bulk in the lower inner thigh and calf area. Despite specific exercises to strengthen these areas, some patients are still deficient. This problem can be embarrassing especially when exposed in shorts and swimwear. Augmentation with silicone implants aims to improve the shape and contour of these areas. These implants are made of a thick outer silicone shell and a cohesive inner silicone gel filling.
Procedure
These procedures are carried out under a general anaesthetic and generally involve an overnight stay in hospital. The incisions are hidden in the groin crease for the thigh implants and in the posterior knee crease for insertion of the calf implants. A support compression garment is recommended over the area for four weeks. At two weeks the dressings are removed and there is no need to remove sutures as they dissolve. The precise size, shape and position of the implants will be discussed at your consultation.
Recovery period
For the first week there is some pain on movement and simple painkillers are prescribed to alleviate this. We recommend that you avoid any strenuous lower torso or lower limb activity for three to four weeks. If you feel comfortable then you can resume driving in a couple of weeks. An off work period of five to seven days is preferred.
Thigh and/or calf augmentation enhances shape and contour and allows for the lower legs to be exposed with confidence.
