Dr. David Paige trained at Cambridge University and St. Bartholomew's Hopsital London qualifying in 1986. Early medical jobs were In London and Oxford but he commenced dermatology training in 1989 at St. John Hospital for skin diseases in London. He spent 2 Years doing both clinical work and lab research at Great Ormond Street Hospital for children as well as at Iowa university USA. From this research he has published many papers on a group of skin conditions called 'ichthyosis'.
Further periods of training were at St. Mary's Hopstial London where he specialised in HIV-related dermatology and Bristol Royal Infirmary.
He was appointed as a consultant dermatologist at St. Bartholomew's and The London Hospitals in 1996. He provides
general dermatology services but also specialist services for paediatric dermatology and HIV related skin disorders. He has continued his research interests and was part of the team that discovered the gene for harlequin ichthyosis (a severe often life threatening condition) in 2005. This condition and the research was featured on the ITV programme 'My skin could kill me' in October 2005.
In 2006 he appeared on ITV's 'This Morning' as the
medical expert to a child with severe bullous
ichthyosis.
He has written books/articles and lectures
extensively on atopic eczema in children.
He serves on the medical advisory panel of 2 skin
charities: The National Eczema Society and The
Ichthyosis Support Group
